 Brighton-le-Sands Preschool

3-5 Year Old Preschool Classes

Pre-School is an important part of a child’s learning journey as they move from their family and home life, to discover the wider environment of preschool. We pride ourselves in providing an Exceeding level of care and education as well as supporting the children’s social, emotional, language, cognitive, physical and creative development with a wide range of stimulating, challenging and most importantly - FUN activities.

The play-based curriculum at Little Sails is based on a healthy balance between both structure and flexibility in the routine and experiences in the centre. Children learn through play along with their interactions and relationships with others – and this is a focus at Little Sails   On any given day, we may be involved in a multitude of activities such as: painting, collage, dress-ups, play dough, puzzles, dramatic play, blocks, books, construction, sand play, water play, climbing, cognitive games, singing, cooking, technology and story-telling.

At Little Sails, there are many opportunities to be challenged with new experiences, whilst being supported by sensitive educators. Every day opens up another learning opportunity for the children and our stimulating indoor environment and large outdoor play area encourages the children to explore the natural environment as well as being given opportunities to be involved in many enticing active play experiences.

The Early Years Learning Framework

Our curriculum has also been inspired and guided by The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia - Belonging, Being and Becoming (2009)

  • Belonging – acknowledges children’s interdependence with others (family, culture, neighbourhood and community) and the basis of relationships in defining identities.

  • Being – recognises the importance of the here and now in children’s lives.

  • Becoming – reflects the process of rapid and significant change that occurs in the early years.

Underneath the umbrella of the framework, the following outcomes are listed, from which experiences are developed for the children to be working towards

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators
